Religion and Science (enviromental Issues) Flashcards
What does the bible teach about the creation of life?
That all life was created by God and Christians see this it’s making its sacred so therefore the world belongs to God and humans are his Stewards so must care for it - stewardship
List three facts about the issues of the environment?
- us burns 80% of fossil fuel per year
- 21st century is the hottest in history
- there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere today then any point in the last 800,000 years
Finish the quote “the earth is the lords…. and what does it suggest
And all that is in it”
this quote suggests everything in the world belongs to God not us therefore many Christians believe we should take care of the Earth as stewards
Finish the quote “rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air…..
And every living creature that moves on the ground”
Many Christians believe stewardship means to look after and Dominion means to control the animals/fish/birds. C of e and Catholics believe the result is the same - we are in charge of protecting gods world
Finish quote “we believe in one god…
Maker of heaven and earth” - the nicene creed
This emphasises gods role as the creator of all life therefore Christians should respect all life what ever form it takes
Give three examples of a Christian response to environmental issues
1) some Christians have chosen to join non-Christian organisations such as Greenpeace and WWF to work towards the protection of the environment and demonstrate stewardship
2) One of the ways Christians so they care and thankfulness for the environment is in worship e.g. Thanksgiving for harvest
3) CAFOD christian aid and tearfund put pressure on governments and industry to think more about how we are abusing the planet
