lie: If I ask for help, people will know that I am weak. Instead of helping, they will just take advantage or put me down.
Truth: I do not want to cast my pearls to pigs. However I do need to confess my faults to people who are willing to share their struggles with me and pray together, if I am going to find support in fellowship. Matthew 7:6, James 5:16
lie: If nobody knows what I do then is none of their business.
Truth: Everything that I do in secret will be sheltered from the housetops and heard in the light. Achan sinned in secret and God could not bless Israel in their next battle and his sin caused other innocent people to suffer. My actions affect my friends and family. Joshua 22:20, Luke 12:3
Lie: I can have my spirituality privately, it is no one else’s business anyhow.
Truth: Only by talking “One to another” can I avoid developing bad attitudes about God.
God’s presence is especially felt when at least 2 or 3 gather together. Malachi 3:16,
Hebrews 10:25, Matthew 18:20
Lie: I can help people to quit being stupid by jumping in and pointing out their errors.
Truth: Sharing my opinion without thouroughly listening actually make me seem foolish. Proverbs 18:13
I need to be quick to listen, really listen, and be slow to speak. James 1:19
Lie: If I find people who agree with me , than I will be happy and will succeed. People who disagree are just energy sappers, if they are not for me–they are against me.
Truth: Watch out, if everyone speaks well of me. Luke 6;26
A true friend is faithful to “wound” me with the truth, as iron sharpens iron I will be sharpened. Proverbs 27:6, 17 When the righteous “smite” me it is a kindness. Psalm 141:5
Lie: Don’t get close to people, they will hurt you, nurse your hurts so that you don’t let anyone hurt you again.
Truth: If someone hurts me and asks forgiveness, I need to remember my own forgiven debt and forgive him. I need to attend the party my heavenly father is throwing for my brother who abandoned us and is now asking forgiveness. Jesus takes the risk of being close to me, even living in me even though I was his enemy and still often let him down. Matthew 18:21 Revelation 3:20
Lie: Poor me! I am doomed to be lonely because no one else is living for God and they can’t relate to someone who is like me.
Truth: Elijah whined that he was the only one left and everyone was trying to kill him and God said that there were 7000 men that had not bowed to Baal. God has a whole army of God loving people out there, I need to ask him to help me find them.I Kings 19:14-18
Lie: I am not responsible for other people’s problems if I don’t know anything about them.
Truth: It is my job to search out other’s problems and get involved for the righteous considers the cause of the poor but the wicked regardeth not to know it. Proverbs 29:7 Job said, “ the cause which I knew not, I searched out.” Job 29:16
Lie: Don’t ask questions and don’t ask for help from God or others or they will know your weaknesses and take advantage.
Truth: Ask and it shall be given seek and I will find, knock and it will be opened to me. I don’t receive because I don’t ask or ask selfishly. If I ask in Jesus’ name he will do it. James 4:2+3 John 14:14 Luke 11:9
