Bible study Flashcards
Lie: I am busy and will just let the pastor studied the Bible and tell me what I need to know. After all he has better credentials and I might mess it up.
Truth: It is good and notable to listen to wise counsel and then I must go to the Bible for myself and decide if that is actually what it says. Any idea that I accept without checking it out for myself is dangerous. Acts 17:11
lie: I love reading the Bible because it makes me feel good and shows me how much better I am doing that other people.
Truth: All scripture is given for the purpose of helping me see truth which will always show me that I am worse than I thought. If I read descriptor and feel no conviction and especially, if I feel superior to others, I am not paying attention. 2Timothy 3:16
Lie: I am smart enough to read the Bible for myself without checking with other people whether I have understood it properly.
Truth: No scripture is of any “Private” interpretation or application. I need to check it out after I have done the work to ask, “what does it say? How should I then live? How does my heart react to interfere with my obedience?” Then I need to ask a wise fellow disciple, “Am I understanding this properly?” Then I need to listen. 2 Peter 1:20
