Prayer Flashcards
Lie: I love to do things, I am a hands-on person, prayer is just not my thing, and just doesn’t feel important.
Truth: Paul, the ultimate doer, prayed without ceasing. Samuel said it would be a sin against God if he stopped praying for others. My continuous heartfelt prayers accomplish a lot. James 5:16, I Thessalonians 5:17, I Samuel 12:23, I Peter 3:7
Lie: I don’t know quite what I should pray for, so I should wait till I figure it all out.
Truth: When I don’t know how to pray, I should just pray the best I can pouring out my heart to God, because the Holy Spirit will intervene, praying for me to the Father. Translating my burden into God-speech. Romans 8:26
God knows my needs before I do. So why should I bother him with them?
Jesus said, “Don’t go over and over your problems till you are worn out, Abba knows what you need, but do pray, “Dear Abba in heaven, may your name be praised and your will be done in my life, and, oh yeah, I will need food, clothing, and shelter so please give me that, I also need forgiveness, help forgiving others, and help to avoid temptation. Matthew 6:8
I don’t really feel that my prayers will change anything, my faith is too weak and it takes strong prayer warriors to get results so why bother?
Many were gathered together praying and when Rhoda told them that their prayer was answered they replied, “thou art mad” and when Peter kept knocking, they said, “It is an angel it can’t be Peter” Acts 12:14 Still they prayed and God worked.
