Need for growth Flashcards
Lie: Now that I am saved, my past is all under the blood and I can ignore it. No need to make amends or help others who struggle with the same sins.
Truth: Paul caused great suffering for his own pride and God gave him great things to suffer for Jesus’ name. God let him build what he had torn down. Acts 9:16. David repented, was forgiven, but the child died and war came to the kingdom. 2 Samuel 12:15
Lie: People are basically good, you just have to bring out the best in them!
Truth: There are no righteous people, not one, Romans 3:10, all, like sheep, have gone astray and turned to their own sinful way, Isaiah 53:6, there is none good, Matthew 19:17, all have sinned and come short. Romans 3:23
Lie: Now that I am saved, I do not need to examine myself or get feedback from others, I am fine just the way I am.
Truth: And so let me examine myself. Let me search and try my ways before I take communion. For if I judge myself I will not need to be judged. If I say, “I’m saved I have no sin” then I lie and the truth is not in me. I Corinthians 11:28,31 / Lamentations 3:4 I John 1:8
Lie: I can read the Bible, understand it and help others with what I have understood. (Without having to be reproved, corrected or purified first)
Truth: ALL Scripture is given for practical guidance in living but the truth will first reprove me that I, truly am, the worst of sinners, it will then fix that which it has reproved and purify before it equips me to help others. II Timothy 3:16+17
Lie: God is the big spoiler of fun. I need to wait till I am old and can no longer have fun and then let him be Lord of my life. It is asking too much to never savor the pleasures of sin and just go straight to miserable godliness.
Truth: Remember now thy creator in the days of your youth. Ecclesiastes 12 :1 Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation 2 Corinthians 6:2 The blessings of the Lord make me rich and he adds no sorrow with them. Proverbs 10:22
