Bible Word meanings Flashcards
The devil gives us almost right but twisted definitions and uses these to discourage us and lead us astray
Lie:
Forgiveness: means allowing myself to be taken advantage of, never remembering or feeling bad about what happened, and not setting any limits on those who hurt me.— I cannot do this, so I guess I am can’t forgive and God cannot bless me.
Truth: Forgiveness means: Not allowing what has been done to me to justify a sinful response. It means, allowing God’s grace to even more abound.
With God’s help, giving thanks always for everything, praying for those that hurt me, blessing those who curse me, doing good to those who do bad to me, interceding with God saying, “ father they did not really understand what they were doing, have mercy on them but open their eyes.” Remember: When someone sins and I am hurt, 1. God is the one sinned against 2 The sinner is the victim 3. I stand to be blessed if I allow God to respond through me.
Then set limits–for their welfare.
Lie: Grace means: Since God loves me just the way I am, and since his glory is made clear when my sin is heaped up allowing his Grace to also be heaped up. So I don’t have to deal with sin. In fact, if I sin more, Grace can more abound.
Truth: Grace means:
The free gift from God of what I desperately need to deal with my sin.
1. Cleansing from my past sin.
2. Power to not send in the present.
3. The assurance that he will be there to help me not sin in the future.
Lie: Hope
Means an “iffy” unlikely possibility of good that will not come to me. Sure God’s ways work for others but in my case I am wiped out and the people that did it to me are fat and happy and sleep well at night. Why bother to hope it will never come about for me.
Truth: Hope
Picturing the guaranteed blessings that will be, if I act on the promises of God for whom it is impossible to lie. It is good for me to put my trust in the Lord God so that I will be able to testify to others to the works he does in and for me. Psalm 73 the whole chapter. Hebrews 6:18
Lie: Surely God wants me to decide what is right and what is wrong and then he wants me to obey/ be strong and do the right and not do the wrong thing. It is only reasonable to moan and groan about how hard it was to be good so that I can earn a little credit, get some sympathy, and feel a little better than others. (This is the definition of INIQUITY)
Truth: Iniquity is the basic sin of pride and it means:
Deciding for myself what is right and wrong, Trying to do what I think is right in my strength and taking credit and moaning and groaning about how hard it was.
(Humility is admitting that I cannot figure out what is right and wrong without God’s help I can do nothing without his cell and see that it is a joy to be a fellow servant and fellow suffer with the Lord. I should leap for joy, and not moan and groan, when given the privilege of obeying with discomfort.) I Kings 3:9, Philippians 4:13, I Peter 4:13, Matthew 5:12
Lie: about Mercy
I can go ahead and indulge in the fun of sin because God is merciful and will forgive me and erase the consequences.
Truth: Mercy means: Helping me benefit from the consequences of my sin.
When I ask for mercy and welcome the consequences of sin as God’s gift to teach me; then God enters the consequences, walks them with me, and helps me learn. I learn to : hate sin, need him, need others, and to warn others of the dangers. Leviticus 26:40-43
Lie about Love
I should love people which means always making them happy and doing nice things for them and never setting limits or confronting them with their sin.
Truth: Love means
Doing what is in the best interest of the other person. Even if, “The more that I love the less I be loved” 2 Corinthians 12:15 I need to confront them and set limits they may not appreciate to increase the chance that they will repent and avoid the damage they are headed towards. 1 Corinthians 5:1-5 Because I love them, my inner goal is to restore them and I always examine myself and ask God to take out the beam from my eye. Galatians 6:1Love means not connecting my willingness to be in relationship to whether they listen.
Lie about Faith:
Faith just means thinking and feeling that something is true. I believe that there is a God and that Jesus died for me and rose again etc. So my faith is fine.
Truth: The devils believe there is a God and they shake in their boots. Faith is not just acknowledging a fact but it is:** the type of belief that forces me to act in the fact.** It is picturing the promises, asking “how should I then live?” and moving my body members according to a growing picture of God’s principles applied to my current situation. Saying “I believe” without doing is pointless and dangerous, leading to thinking that I have faith when I don’t. James 2:18-20
Lie about hope: hope is an unlikely possibility that something good could happen so I should never act on or trust these “iffy” hopes.
Truth: Hope is a verb.I must do hope. It means to picture the good that must be, (because God can not lie) if I do things God’s way rather than my way. My acting in the truth of my hopes based on God’s promises, gives substance to my hope and helps me act more and more in faith. I Peter 1: 3, 13 / Hebrews 6:11
