Q

How does the ATP:AMP ratio affect phosphofructokinase

A

This enzyme is subject to coordinated regulation by high and low energy signals to control its activity, when ATP levels are high the ATP feeds back as an allotsteric regulator to inhibit this enzyme to prevents the processing of glucose in this pathway

When AMP levels are high showing low energy levels this acts as activator and switches on the enzyme so there’s a greater flux of gluose and a greater production of ATP
