When did the reformation begin and what was it?
The reformation was in 1517. This was when the Catholic Church was pointed out do its hypocrisy and dishonesty, and it’s papal authority was challenged by Martin Luther, a German monk.
What is an event that drove Martin Luther to write the 95 theses?
Luther made a pilgrimage to the St. Peter’s basilica. He noticed that an extensive amount of money was made to build the gold altar of the church, despite wealth being one of the seven deadly sins.
How did the church react to Martin Luther’s 95 theses?
The church burned and confiscated his books. Eventually they declared him as a heretic
Describe Henry VII’s strengths
Defeated Simnel in war, when he claimed to be brother of Edward VI.
Henry sent out spies to capture Warbeck, who claimed to be Edward IV’s son.
Intimidated the French into not invading England by marrying Catherine of Aragon to secure an alliance with Spain.
Defeated Cornish rebellion, who marched through London due to tax rise, with a prepared army.
What are advantages and disadvantages of Henry VIII’s Field of the Cloth of Gold?
The field of the cloth of gold demonstrated the wealth and naval strength of England, which meant Henry VIII won a secure alliance with Germany.
However, because of the amount of money Henry had spent, including on the field of the cloth of gold, Henry eventually went bankrupt.
How did Henry secure an alliance with Spain?
He married his dead brother’s wife, Catherine of Aragon
What was the oath of supremacy?
People had to swear on the oath that Henry VIII was the supreme governor of the Church of England

Mary burned 284 Protestants but her public image was later heavily influenced by the book of martyrs, which described the Protestants executions as unpopular

In January 1558, England list Calais,which was England’s last possession of France, during the war.

What was the Elizabethan religious settlement?
It was a compromise between Protestantism and Catholicism
What did Elizabeth do to achieve the compromise of the Elizabethan religious settlement?
A church of England was created that looked Catholic in appearance as it was allowed to be decorated with stained glass.
Catholics were allowed to pray in private.
Catholic style bishops were brought back.
This church followed Protestant doctrines and attendance at Protestant services was mandatory.
Catholic ceremonies were prohibited and priests could marry.
What did Elizabeth I do to prevent Mary queen of Scot’s from becoming queen of England?
She made Mary a prisoner and on 17th February 1587, Elizabeth beheaded Mary on the Tower of London.
