What are push & pull factors?
Push factors- The reasons people leave a place.
Pull factors- The reasons people are attracted to new places to live.
What are the advantages and disadvantages that a source country may face due to migration?
Advantages:
Money sent home by migrants
Decreases pressure on jobs and resources
Migrants may return with new skills
Disadvantages:
People of working age move out, decreasing the size of the country’s potential workforce
Gender imbalances occur, as women and children are left behind
“Brain drain” if skilled workers leave
What are the advantages and disadvantages that a host country may face due to migration?
Advantages:
Richer and more diverse culture
Helps to reduce any labour shortages
Migrants are willing to take on low paid, low skilled jobs
Disadvantages:
Increasing cost of services such as healthcare and education
Overcrowding
Disagreements between different cultures, religions and beliefs.
What is a demographic transition model?
The demographic transition model shows population change over time.
It studies how birth rate and death rate affect the total population of a country.
It shows marked differences between LEDCs and MEDCs.
