What is the cause of seborrhoeic dermatitis?
A
A proliferation of Malassezia furfur.

What can cause the proliferation of malassezia furfur?
A
- Illness
- Fatigue
- Stress
- Psychological stress
- Change in season.
- Immunocompromise (HIV)
- Excess alcohol intake
- Immunological compromise (Parksinsons stroke etc.)

How do you manage Seborrhoeic Dermatitis?
A
- Explain about factors for flare ups.
- Use aqeous cream as a soap substitute.
- Ketoconazole shampoo (scalp massage for 10 minutes)
- FLARE UPS - Topical Daktacort or Canestan-HC.
- STUBBORN CASES: Can ask pharmacist to mix 1% suphur+1% hydrocortisone +1% Salicylic acid = all in a cream base.

SEVERE STUBBORN CASES:
- Itraconazole 200mg OD for 1 week (Ensure not pregnant)
- Eumovate + Oxytetracycline + Nystatin 100,00 units/g
- BD for 7-10 days topically.
- 0.1% Topical Tacrolimus BD for 10-14 days.
