III. Lincoln’s Assassination

  • April 14, 1865
  • Booth (who was a confederate) being a part of a famous acting family, was able to get close to the president without suspicions and killed Lincoln as part of a larger conspiracy to take out other high-ranking officials
  • Booth was killed in his attempt to escape
  • Nation mourned Lincoln’s death and southern democrat Andrew Johnson took over
    (his home state seceded but he stayed loyal to the country)
