18th amendment made it illegal to sell alcohol, most women thought it was bad b/c they saw alcohol as a treat for their families while other women taught about the evils of alcohol, Carrie Nation destroyed all the liquor in a bar
Bootlegger
people who illegally import alcohol into the U.S.
Speakeasy
a place where alcoholic beverages are illegally sold specifically
Problems with Prohibitions
- people made their own
- crime broke out
- speakeasies opened in every town
- unemployment grew
- organized crime rose
- 21st amendment appeals the 18th (1933)
