What were some characteristics of Congressional Reconstruction?
It was controlled by radical republicans who provided more civil rights for blacks. They distrusted the south.

What did the thirteenth amendment do?
Abolished all slavery
What did the fourteenth amendment do?
Privileges and immunities, due process and equal protection clauses
What did the fifteenth amendment do?
voting rights regardless of race, color, or previous condition of servitude

state laws limiting the rights of blacks
How did redemption take place?
States were gradually readmitted to the union
White democrats took over state government
