Radiology and anatomy Flashcards
What is meant by:
Summation effect
Tangential effect
Summation effect is the result of superimposed tissue addding additional radioopacity or subracting from it if the superimposed structure is radiolucent (ie. air filled structure).
Tangential effect is where two dimentional details are diminished when they are perpendicular to the xray beam and are emphasized when they are parallel to the ray bearm.
Name the two unpaired bones of the facial bones
Vomer
Hyoid
What bones do the larimal bone articulate with?
Frontal bone
Maxilla
Palatine bone
Zygomatic bone
Ethmoid bone
What lines the internal surface of the nasal bone?
Mucous membrane
What bones does the nasal bone articulate with?
Frontal bone
Maxilla bone
Incisive bone
Where does the infraorbital canal begin?
At the maxillary foramen
Describe the location of the vomer bone.
What bones does the vomer articulate with?
The vomer bone is a single bone that extends from the base of the cranium to the upper surface of the hard palate. It forms the caudoventral part of the nasal septum.
The vomer articulates with the sphenoid bone, ethmoid bone, palatine bones, maxilla and incisive bones.
What bones do the zygomatic bone articulate with?
What does the zygomatic bone articulate with?
The zygomatic bone forms the zygomatic arch (rostral part) together with the zygomatic process of the temporal bone and maxilla.
It articulates with the maxilla, lacrimal a nd temporal bones.
What bones does the incisive bone articulate with?
It articulates with the maxilla, vomer and nasal bone.
What bone(s) is/are the palatine fissures in?
The incisive bone
What does the vertical ramus of the mandible articulate with?
The temporal bone
What is the interincisive canal?
The interincisive canal (canalis interincisivus) is a minute groove on the medial surface of each incisive bone which lines up with the contralateral groove to form the interincisive canal in the interincisive suture – and is for blood vessels.
