A
Patient is viewed w/ left or right side down; useful for evaluating space above the liver

Ultrasounds in GI Disease
A
Second only to MRI in evaluation of gall bladder disease; used when pt. complains of upper-right quadrant pain

A
Exposes pt. to a high dose of radiation
- Renal insufficiency+ Diabetes mellitus = NEPHROTOXICITY
- Also high risk in pts. w/ allergies (excluding shellfish)

MRI
A
Usually used when CT or X-ray is inconclusive
*Commonly used in evaluation of Crohn’s to prevent increased radiation exposure to these pts.
