Abdominal Vasculature and Lymphatics Flashcards
Celiac Trunk origin
T12
Receives dual blood supplies
Duodenum (celiac trunk) and transverse colon (superior & inferior mesenteric arteries)
Superior Mesenteric Artery Origin
L1
Inferior Mesenteric Artery Origin
L3
Celiac Trunk branches
- Left Gastric
- Splenic => short gastric & left gastroepiploi
- Common Hepatic
(a. ) => gastroduodenal => supraduodenal OR superior pancreaticoduodenal and right gastroepiploic
(b). proper hepatic => right gastric OR R/L hepatic and cystic
Branches of Superior Mesenteric Artery
- Inferior pancreaticoduodenal
- Intestinal Branches
- Middle colic
- Right colic
- Ileocolic
Branches of Inferior Mesenteric Artery
- Left colic
- Sigmoid branches
- Superior rectal`
G.I. Arterial Anastomoses
Superior and inferior pancreaticoduodenal arteries and the colic flexture thru the Marginal Artery of Drummond
Portal Vein
Formed by the jnxn of the splenic and superior mesenteric veins
*Inferior mesenteric feed into one of these two
Portal-Caval Anastomoses
Esophagus: Left gastric (Portal) and esophageal (caval)
*Esophageal varices w/ fatal hemorrhage
Umbilicus: Paraumbilcal (portal) and superficial epigastric (caval)
*Caput medusae
Rectum: Superior rectal (portal) and inferior rectal (caval)
*Internal hemorrhoids
Posterior Abdominal Wall: Colic veins (portal) and retroperitoneal veins
*NONE
Lymph Drainage of Abdominal Wall
Superior to umbilicus => Anterior/posterior axillary nodes
Inferior to umbilicus => Superficial inguinal nodes
Testes and scrotum/labia lymphatic drainage
Testis => Para-aortic (lumbar) nodes
Scrotum/Labia majora => Superficial inguinal nodes
G.I. Tract lymphatic drainage
Drain to pre-aortic nodes (around the main arteries supplying the area) and then to the cisterna chyli
Anal canal lymphatic drainage
Superior to the pectinate line => Inferior mesenteric nodes
Inferior to the pectinate line => Superficial inguinal nodes
Artery found in gastrosplenic ligament
Left gastroepiploic artery
