Histology Flashcards
Fungiform Papilla
Shaped like mushrooms; taste buds found on apical surface
Circumvallate Papilla
Large taste buds characterized by Von Ebner’s glands
Lingual Glands
Small glands inferior to the tongue that contain both mucous and serous glands
Parotid Glands
Contain only serous secreting cells
Striated Ducts
Part of the intralobular ducts that infoldings of cell membrane lined by mitochondria producing the striated appearance
Mucosa
Consists of epithelium, lamina propria, and muscularis mucosa
Submucosa
Contains Meissner’s plexus to control motility of the intestines
Muscularis Externa
Contains Auerbach’s plexus; has an inner circular and outer longitudinal layer
Esophogeal-gastric jnxn
Will see goblet cells, gastric pits, and change in epithelia to columnar
Filliform Papilla
Found all over tongue; show partial keratinization @ the tip
Paneth Cells
Eosinophilic cells found in the jejunum that secrete lysozome to control the intestinal flora
Plicae Circulares
Permanent spiral folds in the SI were most absorption takes place
Brunner’s Glands
Characterizing cells of the duodenum that are found in the submucosa; release their secretions at the base of intestinal glands
*large, tubuloacinar, and branched
APUD cells
Take up amines and secrete GIP, secretin, and CCK
M-Cells
Specialized cells that cover Peyer’s in the ileum patches that fnxn to phagocytize luminal Ags and present them to lymphs in the lamina propria
