Name the Parts of the Hellfire LM-ESAF? (6 Diagram)
- Main ESAF Body
- Interface Cable Outlet
- Time Delay Fuze Assembly threads
- Time Delay Fuze Assembly Housing
- Warhead Firing Module (WFM) - inside housing
- PBXN-5 Booster mounting surface
What is the Firing Module in the Hellfire and what does it consist of? (4)
- Exploding Foil Initiator Detonator (slapper det)
Consists of: - Exploding metal foil
- covered by a polymide flying plate
- deposited on a ceramic “chip” substrate
What does the Lockheed Martin ESAF control in the Hellfire Missile? (1)
controls detonation intiation of the PC and MC warheads within the missile system
What does the Lockheed Martin ESAF consist of? (2)
- 1x Electronics Module (EM)
- 2x Low Voltage Hardened Time Delay Firing Modules (LVHTDFMs)
What does the EM in the ESAF of the Hellfire do? (3)
- provides logic to arm, charge and fire the FMs for both the PC and MC warheads
- prevents unintended arming, charging or initiaiton of both FMs
- Charge the FMs after all safety conditions are met.
What does the EM of the ESAF in the Hellfire contain? (6)
- Microcontroller
- Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
- Applicaiton Specific Inegrated Circuit (ASIC)
- G-Swtich inputs
- Accelerometer inputs
- Interfaces to communicate with the missile controller and FMs
What does the EM in the ESAF in the Hellfire receive from interfacing with DMS controller and CCA? (1)
detonation time delays for both FMs
What parts does the EM in the ESAF in the Hellfire interface to? (3)
- DMS Controller and CCA
- External Impact Switch
- Factory Test Equipment
What does the FM in the ESAF in the Hellfire contain? (4)
- A Microcontroller
- High Voltage storage capacitor
- Trigger Circuit
- Interfaces to communicate with the EM
Inputs into the LM-ESAF in the Hellfire? (6)
- Arming Power (28Vdc)
- Logic Power (15 Vdc)
- Umbilical disconnect
- Firing delay message
- Longitudinal acceleration
- Impact trigger
What is the Hellfire LM-ESAF arming sequence?
- Power on;
- successfully passes BIT;
- (microcontroller) detects umbilical separation and arm power;
- (microcontroller) detects first motion;
- (microcontroller) verifies first motion (> 7g’s for > 6m sec);
- (AGS circuit) verifies first motion (> 8g’s);
- (microcontroller) calculates safe separation distance of 400m within 3.2 seconds;
- (AGS circuit) times minimum safe separation Arm Delay Time of 1.8 seconds;
- (FPGA) counts down Arm Delay Time (1.9 sec. min)
- receives “Arm” command from Controller and charges the FMs (i.e., arms).
What are the 3 Main components of the RBS 70 Bolide system?
Stand
MiC
Sight
What does the RBS 70 MiC consist of?
- Missile in Tube
- mech and elec interfaces for connection to Launcher.
- sealed inner covers to protect missile from dust & moisture.
- protected by padded end caps and a centre pad.
In the current in service RBS 70 Bolide missile, what components does the EP3 contain? List the functions they help to perform?
ELP3 contains the missile receiver optics including the filter, detector package and signal amplifier.
ELP3 detects the guidance beam pulses from the sight, converts them to amplified signals and provides them to ELP1.
In the current in service RBS 70 Bolide missile, what components does the EP2 contain? List the functions they help to perform?
EP2 contains the thermal battery, voltage converters and stabilisers used to produce the missile electrical power.
