Quiz Photosynthesis And Repiration Flashcards
What is ATP (Adenosine triphosphate)
A chemical compound that cells use to store energy
What does ATP do?
It stores energy
What is ADP (adenosine diphosphate)
The last phosphate group of ATP that is broken off
What does ADP do?
A branch of ATP that stores and releases energy
What’s the difference between ADP and ATP?
When one of the three phosphates of ATP breaks off, energy is released and ADP is formed
What is photosynthesis?
Turning the suns energy into food
Autotrophs
Organisms that make their own food
Heterotrophs
Organisms that can NOT make their own food
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2+6H2O—->C6H12O6+6O2
Carbon dioxide+water. —->glucose+oxygen
What is cellular respiration?
Process by which cells breakdown organic compounds (like sugars) to make ATP
What’s the equation for cellular respiration?
C6H12O6+6O2—>.6CO2+6H2O+ATP
What is anaerobic respiration?
A type of respiration that does not need oxygen
Fast process but inefficient
What is aerobic respiration?
A type of respiration that needs oxygen
Slow process but efficient
What are the two major stages of aerobic respiration?
The Krebs cycle and Electron transport chain
What occurs in the Krebs cycle?
Breaks down Acetyl CoA
Five step process
Only 2 ATP are created
