Quiz 1 Part 2 Review (Protein) Flashcards
How many amino acids are there and how many are essential?
20 kinds of Amino Acids and there are 8 essential acids that must be in our diets.
What is the function of Transport (proteins)?
To pass along ions (Hb).
What is the function of Enzyme (Protein)?
They are the biological catalysts (lactose).
What is the function of Antibodies (proteins)?
To protect from invaders (immunoglobulin).
What is the function of Contractile (proteins)?
They change shape for limb movements. (Cilia)
What is the function of Hormones (proteins)?
To regulate organ functions (insulin).
What is the need for Extra Storage (proteins)?
To build new proteins (ovalbumin).
What is the function of Receptors (proteins)?
They are for the cell surface nerves (adrenaline).
What are some examples of structural (proteins)?
Some examples include keratin, nails, fibrin or collagen structure.
What are polymers (protein)?
They are made up of amino acids (aa) monomers.
What does the aa sequence determine?
They determine the final shape (conformation).
What is Amphipretic (protein)?
It’s where the carboxyl is acidic and amino group is basic.
What do slide chain determine?
They determine their biological properties.
What is Acidic aa
What is an Basic aa’s chain?
It is with the amino group.
How will the polypeptide chain look like?
There is an amino group on one end and a carboxyl group on the other.
