1 How does an understanding of the generalized model help you understand other planning models?
Planning model used to teach basic principles of planning and evaluation emphasized in most other models. (Serves as a recommended template) It has elements found in many other models.
2 What are the elements or steps in the Generalized model that are common in most, if not all other programming models?
ASDIE (Assessing needs, Setting goals and objectives, developing interventions, implementing interventions, and evaluating results). All of these elements are common
3 Why is it important to use a model when planning?
Using a model provides a framework that can be used to carry out a program. Many companies and organization have models that they prefer or use. Models are useful in convincing stakeholders to back plans. It gives structure and order for the planning and carrying out of a process.
4 How does pre-planning relate to most of the models of this chapter?
Pre-planning is a quasi step in most of these models. The models are coming into effect sometime after elements of pre-planning has occurred. However, many of the models have similar objectives in pre-planning like; pre-planning - occurs before the planning of a program, occurs when a group of core group members gather answers to key questions that are critical to the planning project before the actual planning process begins. Provides clarity. (some models have epidemiological analysis, needs assessments, and other elements of the pre-planning process.
5 Explain the degree to which you believe consumers or members of the community should be involve in the planning process. Do you believe they should own or control the process?
Consumers and community members must be a part of the planning process. This occurs through needs assessments, the recruitment of community leaders as representatives, and the role of consumers and community members as members of planning committees. They must be a part of the process, however, they may not have the expertise or training in public health to adequately see a program through. Therefore outside professional help needs to be in place.
Pre-planning
pre-planning - occurs before the planning of a program, occurs when a group of core group members gather answers to key questions that are critical to the planning project before the actual planning process begins.
