Quinupristin/Dalfopristin (Synercid) Flashcards

1
Q

Is “Synercid” (Quinupristin/Dalfopristin) bacteriocidal or bacteriostatic?

A

Synercid, the combination of Quinupristin/Dalfopristin is BACTERIOCIDAL

Q

What is the mechanism of action for Quinupristin/Dalfopristin (Synercid)?

A
  • Irreversibly bind to the 50S bacterial ribosomal subunit
  • Quinupristin inhibits chain formation resulting in early termination
