Qualitative research
Focused on participant and their subjective experience. Aims to understand perspective and phenomena in their historical and socio cultural context.
Ideographic approach
Study of what is relevant to the subject, stays limited to phenomenon under the study
Nomothetic approach
Study is run in search of universal principles (quantitative)
Bracketing
Required for quali research to look at the phenomenon with open mind and free oneself from preconceptions
Grounded theory
Method based on semi-structured interviews that tries to understand whats going on in a situation, trying to find theoretical insight (Transcription - thematic data analysis - coding)
Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA)
Trying to understand how a phenomenon is experienced by the subject. (semi) structured interviews. Centred on how participants make sense of their world. (acknowledges input from researcher)
Discourse analysis
Aims to determine how social relations between people are determined by the language they use.

Based on induction and verification
No external criterion to decide between theories
Based on introspection
Bias in input from the researcher.
