A

Only one substance, mind is part of the physical world. ‘Matter’ is a flexible concept so leaves a lot of possibilities. Main problem: if all is physical, why is consciousness so hard to explain.

A

Collection of beliefs people have about psychology, without attempting to verify or test.

Eliminative psychology

A

Churchland. Eliminates mental states, logical reasoning doesn’t exist and Folk psych is dangerous. Called them naive physicist

Reductive materialism

A

Don’t eliminate mental states, but we must account for how they are rooted in the brain. Every mental state has different brain state. Higher order is explained by lower levels.

Non-reductive materialism

A

Approach that believes all is material, but accounts for neural plasticity and individual difference by accepting that a brain state can lead to multiple mental states. (multiple realisability)
