What is pyloric stenosis (RF, Sx)
A
hypertrophy of the pyloric sphincter results in narrowing of the pyloric canal–, most common cause of projectile vomit in 2-12 weeks old
aetiology unkown
male, first born, fhx of pyloric stenosis
Sx - projectile vomiting, non bilious, after feeding
Olive shaped/feeling
can sometimes feel peristalstic waves from tummy
If diagnosis is delayed -volume depletion/signs of tachycardia

Ix and Mx of Pyloric stenosis
A
Ix -bloods
sigs of dehydration and
hypochloraemic alkalosis and mild hypokalaemia
abdo uss is diagnostic but rarely needed -clinical
Ix - iv fluid ressus
Corrective laproscopic surgery
