Putting Green Flashcards
Putting Green
Specially prepared area for putting that allows players to do things you can’t typically do on the course. It is also the area the committee has defined as a green (temporary greens)
Where does the putting green begin
The edge of the green is where the specially prepared area is cut to show the edge
-unless the committee defines it differently using lines or dots
What are the dimensions of the hole
The hole must be 4 1/4 inches in diameter and at least 4 inches deep
-the lining must be 1 inch below the ground
Wrong Green
Any green on the course other than the one for the hole you’re playing
When is your ball on the green
- When any part of the ball is touching the green
- When your ball lies on anything inside the edges of the green (loose impediment)
Actions allowed while on the green
- Ball can lifted and cleaned without penalty
- must mark ball and place back on same spot to avoid penalty
- repair damage without penalty (restoring the green)
- Ball doesn’t have to be on green to restore damage - just the damage itself
- damage is anything not natural (wind, water)
- can use anything artificial as ball marker
What can you do with the flagstick
You can keep it in or remove it while you are anywhere on the course
You must decide on that before making a stroke
When is the ball in the hole
If any part of the ball is in the hole and below the surface area it is considered in the hole
It is not in the hole if it’s not below surface even if it’s touching flag
