Loose Impediments/Moveable Obstructions
Movable natural and artificial objects are not treated as part of the challenge of playing the course
What happens if your ball moves when moving a loose impediment
If in the general area, bunker, penalty area it is a one stroke penalty if moving a loose impediment causes your ball to move. You then replace your ball
What is considered a Loose Impediment
- Unattached natural objects
- Dead animals, animal waste
- Clumps of compacted soil
- Spider webs, ant hills etc
What is not considered a loose impediment
- anything that is attached or growing
- anything solidly embedded into the ground
- anything sticking to your ball
Can you get relief from a loose impediment
Only in the case of an abnormal course condition such as an animal hole would you get relief
Special cases of loose impediments
- Sand/loose soil are not considered loose impediments
- dew, frost, water are not loose impediments
- snow/ice can be played as either loose impediment or temporary water
Moving loose impediments in the tee area/putting green
There is no penalty for moving loose impediments if it causes your ball to move. You just replace your ball
Obstruction
Any artificial object that defines a boundary such as an integral object (stone wall for pond) or a boundary object (stake, fence etc)
Movable Obstruction
Can be moved quickly and easily without damage
-stakes, towels, golf carts, yardage markers
Is there a penalty for moving movable obstructions
No there is no penalty for moving the obstruction and if your ball moves there is no penalty and you replace the ball
