PURPLE K ADD 1 Flashcards
Purple K dry chemical agent is very successful extinguishing agent for use on
All types of aircraft fuels
Purple K should always be used in conjunction with
Fluoroprotein foam when used on aircraft fuels
Purple K dry chemical agent is recommended for use on
Class B fire including Alcohol and C fires. This unit can also be used to extinguish LNG, LPG and pressurized gas fires in conjunction with the use of fog nozzles
Purple K dry chemical agent can also be used on
LNG and any Flammable/combustible fuel, but is especially designed for use on 3D fires or flange fires
It is recommended that the hose line be
Fully deployed before charging the system. This will offset any problems with hose expansion on the reel causing a problem in stretching the line. A loss in pressure may also be experienced with hose remaining on the reel
Discharge range is approx
30 Feet
Start attack about
20 to 30 feet from the fire, wind at your back, and use a side to side sweeping motion
When using more than one extinguisher the angle of attack should be no more than
90 degrees to avoid exposing members
A fog stream may be used as a
Shield to allow a safer approach to leaking valves
Purple K may be applied in conjunction with a
Fog stream to give it more reach. Dry chemicals travel as far as the fog stream carrying it will go
Always control
Ground fires 1st. If not the ground fire may reignite a 3D spill
Continue discharging the chemical agent
Well after the fire is extinguished. NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON THE FIRE
The purple K mounting system will last less than
2 Minutes
Engine company shall
Respond with associated Purple K Unit. Only personnel trained in the use of this sytem should be permitted to operate it. The unit can be special called by the IC to any alarm needed
When operating a wheeled dry chemical extinguisher you should
Remove the entire amount of hose regardless of the distance to the operation. Stretch this hose out before charging
