What bones make up the nose?
Nasal bones, frontal process of maxilla, nasal part of frontal bone, bony part of nasal septum
What cartilages make up the nose?
Lateral cartilage, alar cartilage, septal cartilage
What do the conchae do?
Increase surface area of nasal cavity to warm/cool air
Within the nasal cavity what are the two areas lined by mucosa?
Respiratory area (inferior 2/3) and olfactory area (superior 1/3)
Where are the openings of the posterior ethmoidal sinuses?
Beneath the fold of the superior turbinate
Where is the opening of the spehnoidal sinus?
Outside of the superior turbinate
Where is the opening of the ethmoidal sinus?
Beneath the fold of the middle turbinate at the ethmoid bulla
Where is the opening of the frontal sinus?
In front of the ethmoid bulla beneath the fold of the middle turbinate
Where is the opening of the maxillary sinus?
Below the ethmoid bulla (largest)
Where is the opening of the nasolacrimal duct?
Beneath the fold of the inferior turbinate
What is the main blood supply to the nasal cavity?
Sphenopalatine artery from the maxillary artery
What is the Kiesselbach area?
Where all five arteries of the nasal cavity come together in a capillary bed
What are the four paranasal sinuses?
Maxillary sinus (largest), ethmoid sinus, sphenoid sinus, frontal sinus
