Depressive Mood Disorder
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning.
Bipolar Mood Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a mental illness marked by extreme shifts in mood. Symptoms can include an extremely elevated mood called mania. They can also include episodes of depression.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Teach people that while they cannot control every aspect of the world around them, they can take control of how they interpret and deal with things in their environment.
Goal of CBT
Becoming aware of the negative and often unrealistic thoughts that dampen their feelings and moods.
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
Goal of REBT is to help people respond rationally to such situations. When faced with this type of situation in the future, the emotionally healthy response would be to realize that it is not realistic to expect success in every endeavor.
ABC Model
A — Activating Event: Something happens in the environment around you.
B — Beliefs: You hold a belief about the event or situation.
C — Consequence: You have an emotional response to your belief.
DE of ABC Model
D — Disputation of beliefs: Challenge your beliefs to create new consequences.
E — Effective new beliefs: Adoption and implementation of new adaptive beliefs.
