Mental or emotional strain or tension leading to anxiety
What is arousal?
How involved or committed a player is to a game or situation
What problems might a performer have if arousal levels are too low?
Performance levels will decrease

What is the inverted U theory?
After you reach peak arousal levels, performance will start to decrease
What is the drive theory?
As arousal levels increase, performance levels increase
What methods do people use to control arousal levels?
- Visualisation - picture yourself succeeding
- Thinking positively - tell yourself your good enough
- Relaxation - controlled breathing and relaxed body
What is anxiety?
Feelings of nervousness, worry and apprehension
What is apprehension?
Being fearful about the future
What can happen with too much anxiety?
- May forget routine - panic attack
- Shaky - lose balance
- Sweaty palms - lose grip
- Butterflies or feeling sick - may make mistakes
- Muscles may tighten - reduce speed/strength/flexibility
- Loss of concentration - injury
What is an introvert?
- Quiet
- Keeps to themselves
- Individual sports with fine movements, closed skills, regular routines
What is an extrovert?
- Loud, outgoing
- Likes to be surrounded by people
- Team sports with gross movement
What is motivation?
Your drive to succeed and and desire to achieve something
What is intrinsic motivation?
Motivation from within you
What is extrinsic motivation?
Motivation comes from external rewards or pressures
