Principles Of Training Flashcards
What does SPORTFIT stand for?
•Specificity •Progression •Overload - Frequency - Intensity - Time •Reversibility •Tedium
What is specificity?
Training that is particularly suited to a particular sport or activity
What is progression?
Where training is gradually increases as the body adjusts to the demands being put on it
What is overload?
Making your body work harder than normal in order to improve it
What is frequency?
Increasing the number of training sessions
What is intensity?
Increasing the amount of activity
What is time?
Increasing the amount of time
What is reversibility?
The opposite to progression
What is tedium?
Make training interesting in order to avoid tedium
What is plateauing?
Where progress seems to halt within a training programme
Equation for max heart rate?
220 - your age = max beats per minute
What is a training zone?
Aerobic?
Anaerobic?
The heart rate range in which a training effect takes place on the body
•60-80% of max
•80-90% of max
Benefits of working in aerobic zone?
- Increase CV fitness
- More efficient cardio respiratory system
- Train / perform to a higher standard
Benefits of working in anaerobic zone?
- Increase lactate threshold
* Run at higher intensity for longer
