RED FLAGS - pt taking antidepressants
may exhibit disturbed balance, postural hypotension, falls and fractures, inc HR, dysrhythmias, ataxia, seizures
Compensation
covering up a weakness by stressing a desirable strong trait
Denial
refusal to recognize reality
Repression
refusal or inability to recall undesirable past thoughts or events
Displacement
the transferring of an emotion to a less dangerous (yelling at your child instead of at your boss)
Reaction formation
a defensive reaction in which behavior is exactly opposite what is expected (messy individual becomes neat)
Projection
the attributing of your own undesirable bx to another
“he made me do it”
Rationalization
the justification of bx using reasons other than the real reason
Regression
resorting to an earlier, more immature pattern of functioning
General adaptation syndrome
Total body coping/adaptation to a catastrophic event
Anxiety Neurosis
Excessive anxiety not associated with realistically threatening specific situations
Anxiety - panic attacks
Acute, intense anxiety or terror, may be uncontrollable, accompanied by sympathetic signs, loss of mental control, sense of impending death
Anxiety - Phobias
Excessive and unreasonable fear leads to avoidance bx

type of schizophrenic disorder characterized by mutism or stupor - unresponsiveness, catatonic posturing (remains fixed and unable to talk or move for extended period)
