Protists 2 Flashcards
What are amoabas, and what kingdom?
protozoan
Protista
unicellular
What are amoebas distinguished into>
animal-like protists
how does an amoeba move?
pseudopodia- stretching cytoplasm into finger-like extension
where do amoebas live?
ponds, puddles, and in larger organisms
What kind of cytoplasm do amoebas have?
ectoplasm- clear cytoplasm at the cell membrane
endoplasm- darker and denser
how do amoebas eat?
phagocytosis using psuedopodia into food vacuoles
what does the amoeba nucleaus do?
contain DNA
How do amoebas reproduce?
duplication and binary fission
what does the contractile vacuole do in amoeba?
pumps out water to prevent bursting
what is a cyst?
hard walled body formed by amoebas during unfavorable conditions
what disease can omeabas cause?
amebic dysentary, causing cramps and diahrrea
what is an Euglena?
unicellular
kingdom protista
where are euglenas found?
ponds and puddles
how does euglenas move?
by its flagellum acting like a motor,
where is the euglena flagellum attached to?
reservoir in the front end
