Protista Flashcards
Characteristics
Single called and simple multi cellular organisms
Eukaryotic
Some eat organic substances some photosynthesise
Ameoba and algae
Examples of Protista
Ameoba
Algae
Paramecium
Ameoba
Mine by pseudopods
Unicellular organism
Algae
Large and diverse group of plant
Range from Unicellular to multi cellular
Paramecium
Consists of a single cell
Visible to the naked eye
Ameoba
Single cell Consumer Hererotrophic Lives in fresh water Constantly changing shape Ecto+ endoplasm Contradicile vacuole Pseudopod Food vacuole
Ectoplasm
Outer cytoplasm (jelly)
Endoplasm
Inner cytoplasm (fluid)
Contractile vacuole
Regulates water (osmoregulation)
Pseudopod
Moves ameoba and engulfs food
Food vacuole
Secretes avid and enzymes
Endoplasm appearance
Grainy due to the presence of food vacuole and waste materials
Ectoplasm appearance
Clear and firm
How does ameoba feed
By engulfing it’s prey with pseudopodia
Acid then released to kill prey
Enzymes then secreted into the vacuole
Food can then be stored within the vacuole
Osmoregulation
The process of maintaining salt and water balance (osmotic balance) across membranes within the body
