protein synthesis Flashcards
streptomycin what does it affect
what type of antibiotic
gram -ve (tuberculosis)
bactericidal
binds to 30s
what does streptomycin cause
accumulation of 70s monomers
frozen in initiation complex
where is streptomycin resistant and what protein was mapped
30s resistant and was mapped onto the S12,
lys42 to arg, thr, asp
or lys 87 to arg
what does streptomycin induce
it induces error translation
binds to decoding centre increasing the number of wrong tRNAs which cause a conformational change
what is streptomycins selective toxicity
does not bind to 80s ribosomes
potent against gram -ve in conjunction with Beta lactams to increase permiability
resistance of streptomycin
modified enzymes causing acetylation
altered ribosomes - 1 aa change causes resistance
decreased uptake
side effects of streptomycin
muscle weakness- decrease release of Ach
binds to Ca2+ site on the pre synaptic terminal
reversible ototoxicity
