Processor Performance and Embedded Systems [1.4] Flashcards
How do the number of cores affect the Processors Performance?
The number of cores equates to the number of instructions the CPU can carry out at the same time.
What is Cache?
Small, expensive and high speed memory located within the CPU.
How does cache affect the processors performance?
The more cache there is, the higher clock speed(hz). One hz equates to one complete Fetch Decode Execute Cycle.
How can one improve performance on their Computer?
Increase size of RAM to reduce the use of slow virtual memory, replace magnetic drives with solid state, install code processors such as graphics cards and sound cards.
What is an embedded system?
A Computer inside of a large device that performs only one function.
What are the different types of secondary storage?
Optical Storage, Magnetic Storage, Solid State Storage.
What is something you should consider when buying storage?
Capacity, Durability, Portability, Cost, Speed.
What does the CPU clock do?
The CPU contains a clock which is used to coordinate all the computers components. The clock sends out a regular electrical pulse which synchronises all the components.
What is the frequency of the clock pulses known as?
