Images, Sound, Compression and Cloud Storage [1.5] Flashcards
What are images made up of?
Pixels
How many colours in a pixel?
Each pixel is one individual colour
What is metadata?
Data about data, (author, data creation, image width and height)
What are the differences between Lossy and Lossless compression?
Lossy compression is permanent removal of data, mainly used for sound files and images. Lossless Compression records patterns in the data so no data is removed, used for text files and programming code.
What is Lossy Compression?
Permanent removal of data, so you cannot go back to original, used for sound files and images. Sound files (Remove any sound outside human hearing range), Images (Remove similar colours)
What is Lossless Compression?
Records patterns in the data, so no data is removed so you can go back to original; used for text files and programming code.
How do you digitize a sound wave?
Measure the amplitude (height) of the wave at regular intervals and store the amplitude as a binary number.
What is the frequency of a sound wave?
Number of times we sample the sound file per second is called frequency, measured in hertz(hz)
What is Cloud Storage?
Online storage, internet connection and an account with a service provider is required, data can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have internet connection.
What are the problems with cloud storage?
Data can be hacked into as it is stored in a remote location.
What is amplitude?
The height of the wave,
