Laser printer
Uses laser beam to print high quality text and graphics on paper.
Utilizes electrostatically charged drum with document image to be printed.
Charged drum attracts toner particles, transferred to paper, fused by heat.
3 advantages of laser printer
- Faster printing for entire pages.
- Sharp, clear text ideal for small fonts or fine details.
- Cost-effective use of toner cartridges, produce many more pages.
3 disadvantages of laser printer
- More expensive.
- Not ideal for vivid true to life colors.
- Internal parts need cleaning/replacement.
- Can cause paper jams/errors.
Inkjet printer
- Uses small droplets of ink for image creation.
- Spray tiny droplets of ink on to paper through a series of nozzles.
- Ink stored in small cartridges for easy replacement.
- Produces vivid, detailed images compared to laser printers.
3 advantages of inkjet
- Sharp, Vivid Colors for Printing ideal for photos, graphics, documents.
- Affordable for home/office use.
- Prints on paper, fabrics, card socks, labels.
3 disadvantages of inkjet
- Expensive cartridges
- Slow speed, especially high-quality.
- Dried ink easily clogs small nozzles.
- Requires frequent cleaning.
Thermal Printer
Uses heat to create prints, either by transferring ink from a ribbon or by heating special paper.
Includes direct thermal (heat-sensitive paper) and thermal transfer (uses ribbons).
Usage: Commonly used for printing receipts and labels.
ADV of Thermal Printer
Reliable, low maintenance, ideal for receipts and labels.
Disadv of Thermal Printer
Direct thermal prints may fade and are sensitive to heat/light.
Thermal transfer requires ribbon changes.
