Main components that comprise a computer system Flashcards
Describe the FOUR main components that comprise a computer system
CPU is the central processing unit of a computer, responsible for retrieving, decoding, executing, and storing instructions from memory.
RAM, or Random Access Memory, is a temporary storage system used by the CPU to temporarily store data and program instructions.
Input/output devices are computer components, Input devices input data and commands, while output devices display or output data, such as keyboards, mice, scanners, monitors, printers, and speakers.
Storage devices, such as hard disk drives, solid-state drives, and USB drives, are used to store data and program files, retaining them even when the computer is turned off.
What is system performance, and how is it measured ?
SP,How well a computer is performing in terms of speed, accuracy, efficiency, reliability.
HOW IT IS MEASURED?
Response time
Network bandwidth
Error rates
Throughput
Memory
Processing power
For a desktop computer, give SIX Hardware Components that can be performance tested and
suggest a suitable method of performance testing them
Processor (CPU): Use benchmarking tools such as Cinebench, Geekbench, or PassMark
Memory (RAM); Use tools like MemTest86 or AIDA64
Storage Drive (HDD/SSD): Use benchmarking software like CrystalDiskMark or AS SSD Benchmark
Graphics Card (GPU): Run GPU stress tests using 3DMark, FurMark, or Unigine Heaven
Power Supply Unit (PSU): Use a multimeter or PSU tester
Cooling System (Fans/Heat Sink/Liquid Cooling): Use HWMonitor or Core Temp
