Primary and Secondary Data Flashcards
What is primary data?
This is original data that has been collected specifically for the purpose of the investigation by the researcher. It’s data that arrives first-hand from the participants themselves
What are two strengths of primary database?
It fits it’s purpose and it targets specifically the information the researcher requires
What is a limitation of primary data?
It requires time and effort as you need to plan the experiment, it’s costly to get resources
What are three examples of primary data?
Experiment, questionnaire and interview
What is secondary data?
It is data that has been collected by someone other than the person carrying out the research
What is a strength of secondary data?
It can be inexpensive and easily accessed as there is not need to conduct primary research
What is two limitations of secondary data?
It may not meet the researchers specific needs or objects and the research may not be accurate
What are three examples of secondary data?
Journals, articles and websites
