What are controlled drugs?

A
  • Controlled under the misuse of drugs act 2001 that states rules around controlled drugs to prevent them for being obtained illegally and causing harm.
  • They set rules on how they are stored, produced, supplied and prescribed.

What are patient group directives?

A
  • Documents in England that allow for the supply of presciription only drugs to certain patients who already have individual prescriptions.

What are patient specific directions?

A
  • Traditionally a set of written instructions from a prescribing ie medics, dentist or non medical prescriber that allows ‘the prescriber’ to give permission for supply and administration of a drug to a named person having already assessed the patient on an individual basis.
