Pathology Flashcards
1
Q
What is apoptosis?
A
- Programme cell death
2
Q
What is necrosis?
A
- Traumatic cell death
3
Q
What is hypertrophy?
A
- Increase in cell size
4
Q
What is hyperplasia?
A
- Increase in the number of cells
5
Q
What is atrophy?
A
- Decrease in cell size or number
6
Q
What is metaplasia?
A
- Complete differentiate from one cell to another
7
Q
What is dysplasia?
A
- Pre malignant cell
8
Q
How is a thrombsis form?
A
- Solid mass of blood that blocks an artery leading to infarction.
- Arteries are lined with epithelial cells that can become damaged, this exposes collagen which allows platelets to stick to them creating platelet aggravation. Over time fibrinogen becomes fibirn and turbulent flow leads to a positive feedback loop and gets bigger, bolcikg the artery.
9
Q
What is an embolus?
A
- A part of a thrombus thats split off causing infarction.
10
Q
What is ischaemia?
A
- Decreased blood flow
11
Q
What is infarction?
A
- Death of cells due to lack of blood flow
12
Q
What is resolution?
A
This is where cells and tissue become damaged, the issue is removed and the cells regenrate and ar eundamaged.
13
Q
What is repar?
A
- This occurs when there is no regeneration and therefore the cells become damaged.
