How often are amendments to the MATS Part 2 published?
Every 4 weeks on an AIRAC date. New editions of the entire MATS Part 2 are published as required.

Regarding the interpretation of words, which 4 phrases mean that the instruction is mandatory?
“Shall”, “is to”, “are to” and “must”.
Regarding the interpretation of words, which word is only used for informative or descriptive writing?
“Will”. e.g. “pilots will file….”
Regarding the interpretation of words, which word is used if an instruction is permissive optional or alternative?
“May”. e.g. “a controller may seek assistance….”
Regarding the interpretation of words, which word is used to strongly advise that an instruction be carried out?
“Should”. It is applied where the more positive “shall” is unreasonable but a controller/pilot would have to have a good reason for not doing so.
When thinking about amendments to the MATS Part 2, what period of notification time should the Procedures Departement provide between the publication date of a SI or TOI and the effective date of that instruction?
Where possible, they provide a minimum of 14 days notification.
What is a Supplementary Instruction (SI)?
A mandatory ATC instruction which constitutes a permanent change to local ATC procedures.
What is a Temporary Operating Instruction (TOI)
A mandatory ATC instruction which constitutes a temporary change to local ATC procedures.
What is an Addendum?
An addendum is issued when an addition to a published instruction is required.
What is a Corrigendum?
A corrigendum is issued when a correction to a published instruction is required.
What is an Operational Notice (OPNOT) and what is their validity period?
An OPNOT contains information or guidance on ATC matters. Does not constitute a change to ATC procedures. OPNOTs are valid for up to 90 days.
What is a Prestwick Reminder (PCREM) and what is its validity period?
A PCREM is generated to remind the operational staff of current procedures. PCREMs are valid for up to 60 days.
