Classification of universal predicates in general
PREDICABLE
What are the two supreme predicaments?
SUBSTANCE and ACCIDENTS
Being that carries existential actuality by itself
SUBSTANCE
Modifiers of a substance which cannot be conceived without the accident
ACCIDENTS
Of having measurable parts
QUANTITY
A formal modifier of the substance
QUALITY
The reference of one substance to another
RELATION
Motion of a substance
ACTION
Modification of a substance as a result of the influence of another agent
PASSION
Circumstantial determination as to time or duration
WHEN
Determination of substance as to place or space
WHERE
Determination as to the disposition of its parts
POSTURE
Determination as to external outfit or covering
HABIT
Concepts that may apply to many subjects
PREDICABLES
Expresses that part of the essence of the subject which it has in common with other individuals of a different species (eagle-bird; nitrogen-chemical)
GENUS
That which distinguishes the individual from the others within the genus (e.g. University - Learning Institution)
SPECIFIC DIFFERENCE
Expresses the whole essence of subject; comprises the genus and the specific difference (e.g. A guitar is a musical instrument. A mother is a female parent)
SPECIES
Expresses an attribute that is not part of the essence of the subject but necessarily flows from it (e.g. glue is sticky; man is capable of laughter)
PROPERTY
Associated with the subject in a factual or contingent manner (e.g. Mayon is in Albay)
