How does the assistant assist in surgery?
holding tissue out of the way, elevating the ovarian pedicle, getting instruments ready, etc.
Before the patient leaves the recovery area, the surgeon is responsible for
writing a very brief surgery report to note areas of difficulty or complications encountered during the procedure

What are the steps of a thorough skin prep?
-Scrub with chlorhexidine scrub from prep tray
-Rinse with water containing dilute chlorhexidine solution (pale blue)
-Repeat both steps 3 times AFTER all gross debris moved
-Begin each scrub in center and scrub in a “bulls eye” pattern toward the periphery
-Final skin prep done after patient moved to sx table
-The final application of Iodine or Chlorhexidine solution allow to remain on skin “the paint”
-After skin prep, secure legs and adjust lighting
What position is a patient in for abdominal surgery
dorsal recumbency with head toward anesthetic machine and resting comfortably on table
