what things should be included in med history?
signalment, meds, previous surgery or diagnosis, changes, is patient fasted?
what should be evaluated during physical exam before anesthesia?
BCS, C/V, resp, hepatic, renal, CNS
what should be included in diagnostic testing before anesthesia?
varies depending on age/status
mini panel, full panel, urinalysis, thoracic rads, ECG
patient prep
varies depending on procedure
fasting- food: 8-12 hours before, water: 2-4 hours before
stabilize prior to procedure if necessary
keep in a quiet area, reduce stress, place IV catheter, do PE, do B/W
equipment and supplies for prepping for surgery
correct anesthesia machine, other supplies ready like IVF, ETT, drugs
IVF supplies
IV catheter, infusion set, flush, tape, clippers, scrub/alcohol
IVF rate: 5-10 mL/hr
extubation
connected to 100% oxygen
cuff deflated, untie tube, swallowing
gently pull out tube, watch for vomit/regurg and watch airway
recovery
restore to normal state
