Practical Anesthetic Pharmacology Flashcards
ASA Status
1 - normal 2 - mild dz with no functional limitations 3 - some functional limitations 4 - disease is constnt threat to life 5 - not expected to survive 6 - brain dead
Preop anxiolysis
THink Benzodiazepines with short onset and duration that also privdes amnesia
Risk of PONV
Female gender
Non smoker
Previous Hx
Post op opiate
25% for each
How to tx PONV
Serotonin antagonists (5HT3)
Dexamethasone
Scopolamine
Totl IV anesthetic (probably propofol)
Purpose of test dose and what to look for
Make sure it is not in bad place
Give lidocaine with epinephrine
Will make HR increase or perioral numbeness if in veseels
If in SA space, then T6-8 block
Most common inductor of anesthesia
Propofol
MAC of various agents
Desflurane - 6
Sevoflurane - 1.7
Isoflurane - 1.17
N2O - 105
MACs is concentration that 1/2 of patients won’t move
MACs are additive
Shoot for 1.3-1.4 the MAC
Mech of termination of inhalation
Vaporizer turned off and partial pressure of desflurane drops in alveolus and gas moves from the braqin to the blood to the alveolus and is exhaled
