POWERPLANT Flashcards
When should the engine oil be checked?
5-30 minutes after engine shutdown.
What do you see during a normal TR deployment?
White REV in N1’s (in transit) followed by green REV in the N1’s(deployed).
When is APR armed?
When Thrust levers are in the TO detent.
On Approach when flaps are greater than 20 degrees or the gear is down.
When is APR activated?
a spilt in N2’s of 15% or more is detected.
What is the time limit in APR when automatically activated?
10 Minutes
What is the time limit in APR when manually selected?
5 minutes.
When would you manually select APR?
Stall, Windshear, TAWS event, unusual attitudes.
If APR is activated, is there a wear and tear factor?
YES. 5 cycles and 10 hours added to engine(s) per event.
What does FADEC protect against on the ground during engine start?
HOT START
HUNG START
NO LIGHT OFF
** There is no FADEC protection for inflight starts…
Max ITT for start?
650 degrees
Max ITT to initiate a start?
350° C
What happens automatically to thrust reversers below 85 kts?
FADEC will reduce thrust to arrive at idle thrust at 40 kts regardless of TR lever position.
In order for Engine sync to be activated what must occur?
The slave engine must be within 5% of the Master engine.
What parameters must be met in order for Mac Hold to be active?
N1 or N2 synchronized
Aircraft trimmed for steady level flight
Autopilot engaged in either Altitude Hold or Altitude Select (with altitude captured)
Mach Hold authority only allows N1 to be adjusted within:
+/- 3%
** with MACH HOLD selected and outside the 3%, MACH HOLD green goes away and is replaced by a green SYNC.
What is the ballpark fuel burn for the first 3 hours of flight?
1st hour: 2600#
2nd hour: 2000#
3rd hour: 1800#
What is the kevlar containment ring for?
If the Fan section of the engine separates, the containment ring prevents fragments from penetrating the pressure vessel.
When the stick-shaker activates due to excessive AOA, what happens automatically?
FADEC fires both igniters and modulates engine thrust to try to prevent compressor stall.
What warnings can you expect during an engine fire?
- Master Warning Lights
- L/R ENGINE FIRE CAS msg.
- Red FIRE inside N1 indicaors.
- Fire Switch Light illuminates
- Aural “ENGINE FIRE”
How many consecutive ENGINE starts can you do?
3, with 30 second of motoring (cooling) in between starts, then 15 minutes cooling.
What is the primary method of checking engine oil?
At the refuel Panel or Remote Oil Level Sensors (ROLS)
**there is a sight gage in each engine (secondary way of checking oil level)
During a normal start, when does the start valve close and the ATS (AIR TURBINE STARTER) disengage?
50% N2
Why is there no need for PRIST?
A Fuel Heater/Oil Cooler (FHOC) heats the fuel and cools the engine oil. (Heat Exchanger)
When should we manually turn on the igniters?
Acronym TRCT
T- Thnderstorms
R - Rain (heavy)
C - Contaminated Runways
T - Turbulence
Both Igniters A and B fire.
