ECS/PNEUMATICS/ICE AND RAIN Flashcards
What is HP?
High Pressure Bleed air.
What is IP bleed air used for?
Air conditioning, pressurization, and engine start.
What pressure is IP regulated to?
50 psi (+/-3 psi)
What is HP bleed air used for?
Wing and engine anti-ice.
What pressure is HP bleed air regulated to?
36 psi (+/- 3 psi)
What are IASC’s?
Integrated Air System Controllers (2 installed IASC 1 and IASC 2)
Brains of the pneumatic system.
Each IASC has 2 Channels (A + B)
What is IP?
Intermediate Pressure Bleed air
What do the IASC’s monitor?
IASC 1 monitors the Left IP and HP bleed valves
Channel A monitors ECS and Pressurization Channel B Monitors Wing Anti Ice and Leak Protection
IASC 2 monitors the Right IP and HP bleed valves
Channel A monitors ECS and Pressurization Channel B Monitors Wing Anti Ice and Leak Protection
Why would you select manual temperature (MAN TEMP) to ON?
It gives you a wider temperature selection range.
AUTO: 15-35 degree temp. range
MANUAL: 3-70 degree temp. range
Wing temperature sensors closer to the wingtips measure what?
Underheat.
Wing temperature sensors closer to the fuselage measure what?
overheat.
In what position do wing anti ice valves fail?
They fail closed.
When is T2 heated?
T2 is heated electrically when the engine anti ice (ENG L/R) is selected to ON in the ANTI-ICE PANEL.
Max Runway contamination depth?
.5”
What kind of air comes out of the gaspers?
ALL COLD AIR.
On the ground, when do you use engine anti ice?
OAT 10 degrees or less in visible moisture or on contaminated surfaces.
On the ground, when do you turn on wing anti ice?
OAT is 5 degrees C or less in visible moisture. (If de-iced with Type II or IV, delay turning on wing anti ice to just prior to thrust increase for takeoff)
When do you turn on Engine anti ice on in flight?
When TAT is 10 C (to SAT -40 C) in visible moisture or a CAS ICE DETECTED message.
When do you turn on WING anti ice on in flight?
When the TAT is 10 C or below (to SAT -40 C) in visible moisture, and the airspeed is below 210 KIAS or anytime an amber ICE DETECTED CAS message is displayed.
Sequence for transferring the bleeds from APU to Engines
X BLEED closed, L BLEED ON, APU BLEED OFF, R BLEED ON.
**Opposite for transferring from Engines to APU.
When the L (R) PROBES switches are selected ON, the following probes/sensors are heated:
- Left and right standby static ports
- Left and right AOA sensors
- Left and right Pitot-Static probes
- TAT probe
- Standby Pitot probe
What happens when you select TRIM AIR ONLY on the ECS panel?
Opens Right Flow Control Valve
Closes Left Flow Control Valve
Closes the Pre-cooler Crossover Valve (PCV)
TRIM AIR ONLY CAS msg displayed
What is the purpose of waiting 2 minutes before commencing the anti-ice test?
To allow the low temperature sensors (Underheat sensors) in the wing tips to detect sufficient heat.
An Amber (L/R) BLEED LOOP FAIL EICAS message indicates:
Both Loops of a dual-loop zone are inoperative.
